Made from "Non Genetically Modified" Soybeans

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are one of the most dangerous and radical changes to our food supply. Internal FDA documents made public from a lawsuit, reveal that agency scientists warned that Genetically Modified foods might create toxins, allergies, nutritional problems, and new diseases that might be difficult to identify. Many consumers in the US mistakenly believe that the FDA approves GM foods through rigorous, in-depth, long-term studies. In reality, the agency has absolutely no safety testing requirements. Instead the agency relies on research from companies like Monsanto, research that is meticulously designed to avoid finding problems.

One study showed evidence of damage to the immune system and vital organs, and a potentially pre-cancerous condition. When the scientist tried to alert the public about these alarming discoveries, he lost his job and was silenced with threats of a lawsuit.

In an unpublished study, laboratory rats fed a GM crop developed stomach lesions and seven of the forty died within two weeks. The crop was approved without further tests. There are no adequate tests to verify that GM food will not create dangerous allergic reactions.

Monsanto produces seeds which grow into plants genetically engineered to be tolerant to glyphosate -- which are known as Roundup Ready crops. Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine) is a broad-spectrum systemic herbicide used to kill weeds, especially perennials, and is the most used herbicide in the USA. Monsanto developed and patented the glyphosate molecule in the 1970s, and marketed Roundup from 1973. Monsanto also produces seeds which grow into plants genetically engineered to be tolerant to glyphosate which are known as Roundup Ready crops.

Soy was the first Roundup Ready crop and was produced at Monsanto's Agracetus Campus located in Middleton, Wisconsin. Roundup is used in conjunction with Monsanto's 'Roundup Ready seeds'.

Greenpeace states that the acute human toxicity of glyphosate is very low, and note thought -- that other added chemicals (particularly surfactants, e.g. polyoxy-ethyleneamine, POEA) can be more toxic than glyphosate itself. It is the combination!

About 100 people died and 5-10,000 to fell seriously ill when they consumed the food supplement L-tryptophan. Only those who consumed the variety that was genetically modified became ill.

Genetically Modified seeds are causing an epidemic of herbicide-resistant weeds, thereby encouraging the use of more toxic pesticides, including ones banned in some European countries.

Roundup commercial formulations were never submitted to test by the United States Environmental Protection Agency‎ (EPA), its main active ingredient, glyphosate, received EPA Toxicity Class of III for oral and inhalation exposure. Studies have shown that Roundup formulations and metabolic products cause the death of human embryonic, placental, and umbilical cells in vitro even at low concentrations.

In 1996, genetically modified Roundup Ready soybeans resistant to Roundup became commercially available, followed by Roundup Ready corn in 1998. Current Roundup Ready crops include soy, maize (corn), canola, sugar beet, Hawaiian papaya and cotton, alfalfa, zucchini and yellow squash, with wheat still under development. As of 2007, 89% of U.S. soybean fields were planted with glyphosate resistant varieties.

To think that Monsanto would make claims that its spray-on glyphosate based herbicides, including Roundup, were safer than table salt and "practically non-toxic" to mammals, birds, and fish is unbelievable -- but true. In 1996 Monsanto was accused of false and misleading advertising of glyphosate products, prompting a law suit by the New York State attorney general.

On two occasions the United States Environmental Protection Agency has caught scientists deliberately falsifying test results at research laboratories hired by Monsanto to study glyphosate.

In one incident, the owner of the lab (Craven Labs) and three lab employees were indicted on 20 felony counts, the owner was sentenced to 5 years in prison and fined 50,000 dollars, the lab was fined 15.5 million dollars and ordered to pay 3.7 million in restitution. Craven laboratories performed studies for 262 pesticide companies including Monsanto.

Here at 24kEssentials we do not use soy wax that is made from soybeans grown from genetically modified seeds, and we do not add  chemical additives other than fragrance and color. Our candle waxes are not blends, and they do not contain paraffin wax, animal by-products, or additives.

Each of our candles is scented with the proper amount of fragrance to give you safer candles and the best smelling candles possible. Our fragrance oils are Phthalate free. Our fragrances and colors are specifically made for use in candles.

We do not over fragrance our candles, or claim they are 'triple scented', which results in nothing more than a risk of fire, and a waste of expensive fragrance oils.

More and more doctors are already prescribing GM-free diets for many very good reasons, your health for one. Dr. Amy Dean, a Michigan internal medicine specialist, and board member of AAEM says, “I strongly recommend patients eat strictly non-genetically modified foods.” Ohio allergist Dr. John Boyles says “I used to test for soy allergies all the time, but now that soy is genetically engineered, it is so dangerous that I tell people never to eat it.”

The tests below, performed by others, were conducted on Genetically Modified foods and show why I do not and will not use GMO soybeans for my soy candles or body products.  My soy has been guaranteed to be NON GMO by the manufacturer.

Among the population, biologist David Schubert of the Salk Institute warns that “children are the most likely to be adversely effected by toxins and other dietary problems” related to GM foods. He says without adequate studies, the children become “the experimental animals.”

The experience of actual GM-fed experimental animals is scary. When GM soy was fed to female rats, most of their babies died within three weeks—compared to a 10% death rate among the control group fed natural soy.

The GM-fed babies were also smaller, and later had problems getting pregnant.
When male rats were fed GM soy, their testicles actually changed color—from the normal pink to dark blue.

Mice fed GM soy had altered young sperm.

Even the embryos of GM fed parent mice had significant changes in their DNA.

Mice fed GM corn in an Austrian government study had fewer babies, which were also smaller than normal.
